LPGA Member to Teach at St. Andrews in Scotland September 29, 2006

Michigan State University’s The Eli Broad College of Business has developed a Study Abroad program at The University of St. Andrews in Scotland. International Labor-Management Relations in a Global Market will expose students to different employment relations models and the impact of multi-national U.S. corporations on the management of people in complex organizations.
Open to MSU juniors and seniors the program will be held August 4-18, 2007. Students participating in this program will have a unique opportunity to attend “Business Golf--Using Golf as a Business Tool” directed and instructed by Jan Brintnall, LPGA Teaching and Club Professional, MSU Alumnae and former member of the MSU women’s golf team.
The golf element has two components: the first in April, includes pre-departure golf lessons and instruction, review of American course design and golf’s early history in America. Students will learn shot execution essential to manage play on American style courses and how to use golf as a business skill.
The second component will take place in August during the Study Abroad program at the prestigious St. Andrews Links Trust facilities and The University of St. Andrews.
Scottish golf course design, the history of Links golf and the shots necessary to play on Links style courses will be covered. The final day of the golf program will include a nine-hole scramble on one of the six St. Andrews Links Trust courses.
The program is described as “brilliantly innovative” by Robert Duncan, Dean of the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University. “While students will learn about managing human resources at a multi-national level in a global market, they have the unique opportunity to learn another valuable business skill through the golf component of this Study Abroad experience.
This is the first LPGA-MSU collaboration of its kind and the first MSU Study Abroad Program that incorporates curriculum and a sport skill set that is related to the student’s academic program and future career success.” The program, which begins August 2007, will accept up to 30 students and will be offered for 10 years.
